Most recently, in 2022, we officially launched our newest Compresstome® model, the VF-500-0Z vibrating microtome. This fully automatic tissue slicer takes the best components of both the Legacy line of Compresstome® models combined with the ease-of-use features of the VF-310-0Z. Invention of “Auto Zero-Z” Technology
Dr. Kong knew the Compresstome® tissue slicers had room for improvements and continued to work to invent the patented Auto Zero-Z® technology for them. First Fully Automated Compresstome Built
With the success of the VF-200, Dr. Kong knew the possibilities for the Compresstome® could expand, and the VF-300 (fully automatic model) was born soon after. The VF-300 was greatly beneficial for both fresh and fixed tissue sectioning as the automatic version of the Compresstome® can more easily and accurately produce thinner sections (~5-10 µm) for immunohistochemistry and in-situ hybridization experiments.
First Compresstome Model Built
With the help of his scientist colleagues and engineering friends, Dr. Kong built the first ever Compresstome® Vibrating Microtome, the model VF-200. The VF-200 introduced a new mode of cutting tissue slices that included a patented compression technology. The compression advantage resulted in superior quality slices to the research industry, producing even, consistent, high quality slices every time you cut; especially for those producing fresh brain slices for patch-clamping.
Precisionary Instruments is Launched!
Precisionary Instruments was founded in 2004 by Dr. Jian-Qiang Kong, Ph.D, the creator and inventor of the Compresstome® tissue slicer. Dr. Kong worked in academic research, producing fresh brain tissue slices for patch-clamp electrophysiology experiments. At the time, he was using a traditional vibratome.
