Dr. Seungwoo Kang, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, specializes in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying brain activity in psychiatric disorders. Dr. Kang’s research focuses on how brain circuits and cellular interactions, especially between neurons and astrocytes, drive adaptive and maladaptive behaviors associated with reward-seeking and addiction. His lab employs a multi-layered approach that integrates biochemical, electrophysiological, and behavioral assays, alongside real-time brain recording and computational analysis. Through these methods, Dr. Kang aims to define brain-wide patterns that can predict the risk of addiction and other psychiatric conditions.

In this webinar, Dr. Kang will:

  • Explore the role of astrocytes as a key determinant of neuronal synaptic function and consequent behavioral changes.
  • Share experimental tools for evaluating bidirectional neuro-astrocytic interactions.
