“The main advantages of this machine are the rapid speed of slicing and the manual stabilization afforded by the agarose embedding. I am able to prepare uniform slices in both the coronal and horizontal planes, and I routinely complete transcardial perfusion, brain removal, and slicing all within less than 10 minutes, which is half the time needed with the Leica vibratome.”

Working with the Precisionary team has been phenomenal. Their customer service is unmatched. They respond quickly, work quickly, and are constantly looking for ways to improve user experiences. I have had great success using their Compresstome VF-800-OZ for tissue slicing. This model has allowed me to increase throughput, consistency and efficiency simultaneously, while yielding amazing results. The device is user friendly, compact for any lab space, and produces quality tissue slices with ease. The amazing customer service together with the functionality of the device make Precisionary stand out amongst the other companies in industry.

The compresstome has enabled us to cut live precision slices of tissues that we were unable to cut using a conventional vibratome, and so has made a huge difference to many projects! The customer service provided by Precisionary is excellent – always helpful, always friendly, always prompt. I can highly recommend this company and its products.

FAQs

What types of tissue can the VF-210-0Z cut effectively?

The VF-210-0Z is optimized for both fixed and live tissues, including delicate brain, lung, liver, and tumor tissues.

How does the VF-210-0Z improve slice quality compared to traditional vibratomes?

The VF-210-0Z uses Auto Zero-Z® technology to eliminate Z-axis vibration, significantly reducing tissue distortion and improving slice consistency. The tissue is also gently compressed during slicing, which helps achieve consistent, thinner slices with less tearing.

What is the maximum and minimum slice thickness I can achieve?

You can cut slices ranging from 10 µm to 1000 µm in thickness, adjustable in 1 µm increments. This flexibility is suitable for applications requiring thin sections (e.g., imaging) to thicker slices (e.g., electrophysiology or organotypic cultures).

Can I adjust the vibration frequency and amplitude for different tissues?

The vibration frequency is adjustable from 0 to 65 Hz, allowing you to optimize cutting based on tissue type. The vibration amplitude is fixed at 1.2 mm, which is optimized for a wide range of tissue slicing needs.

Is the blade holder compatible with all blade types?

The magnetic blade holder supports double-edge stainless steel, ceramic, and tungsten carbide blades, allowing users to choose the best blade material for their specific application or tissue type. The blade holder is magnetic so stainless steel blades can be applied without needing to glue them onto the blade holder. However, for more fibrotic or tougher tissue, we recommend adding a bit of glue for extra reassurance.

Can I use this vibratome in a biosafety hood or small lab space?

Yes. The VF-210-0Z has a compact footprint (330 x 255 x 195 mm) and a quiet cordless motor, making it ideal for use inside biosafety cabinets or crowded benchtops.
