Dr. Z. Gordon Jiang

Assistant Professor of Medicine, Harvard Medical School Falchuk Family Chair of Gastroenterology, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Precision Cut Liver Slice from Healthy and Diseased Human Liver Tissue

Dr. Z. Gordon Jiang is a transplant hepatologist and physician-scientist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School. His research investigates lipid metabolism in liver diseases such as alcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Dr. Jiang’s lab develops human cell-based liver models that illuminate how hepatocyte differentiation and regeneration are altered in disease, with the ultimate goal of identifying new therapeutic strategies. Over the past two years, his team has advanced the use of Precision-Cut Liver Slices (PCLS), leveraging both healthy and diseased human tissues obtained via liver transplantation. In this webinar, Dr. Jiang will present technical refinements in the PCLS platform, insights into the biology of liver slices in culture, and emerging applications in translational research.
